What is free, and official

• The official sample questions for all 10 subtests.
• Free practice on asvabprogram.com and March2Success, both listed by the official site.
• The ASVAB Career Exploration Program, given in schools and free of charge to participating schools (officialasvab.com FAQs).
• Your recruiter, who schedules the test and can tell you the current minimum scores of the Service and jobs you want: officialasvab.com does not publish them.

What the official program says about paid prep

The ASVAB program does not endorse any commercial prep and warns against anyone claiming to sell actual ASVAB questions or guaranteed scores (test preparation disclaimer). A good tutor sells method and practice, not "real questions".

What a tutor can do is work on the four subtests that make up the AFQT: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension. The AFQT is a percentile from 1 to 99, not a percentage of correct answers (Understanding ASVAB Scores).

Plan around the retest rules

Under the official retest policy you wait 1 calendar month after your first test, 1 more month before a second retest, then 6 months between later retests. If your AFQT jumps by 20 points or more within six months, you are required to take a confirmation test. A failed first try therefore costs you at least a month: it is the moment when focused help pays off most.

The PiCAT at-home version is open only to people who have never taken the ASVAB, once, with an access code from a recruiter, and must be confirmed by a short proctored Verification Test.

Questions to ask an ASVAB tutor before you pay

• Do you prepare for the computer version (CAT-ASVAB) or the paper one? Pacing and guessing strategy differ (Preparing for the ASVAB).
• How do you find my weak subtests? Ask for a diagnostic first. You can take our free ASVAB practice test and bring the result.
• Which line scores do you work on? Your target job's line scores matter as well as the AFQT; your recruiter has the current requirements.
• What is the total price, and what if I stop? Sessions, materials, cancellation and refund terms, in writing.
• Do you promise a score? If yes, walk away: the official program warns against guaranteed scores.

• Only if you tick the consent box, we pass your request to up to 3 partner tutors or prep course providers, who may contact you about it. Partners may pay passmock for an introduction; you pay nothing to us.
