Each of our 2 full AFQT practice tests follows the paper-and-pencil AFQT subtests as published on officialasvab.com: Arithmetic Reasoning 30 questions in 36 minutes, Word Knowledge 35 in 11, Paragraph Comprehension 15 in 13 and Mathematics Knowledge 25 in 24 (105 questions, 84 minutes). They are fixed forms, not adaptive like the CAT-ASVAB, and they give you a percentage correct, not an AFQT percentile: the real AFQT is built from standard scores normed on a 1997 national sample, which a practice test cannot reproduce.

Sample question from practice test 1

Two cars leave the same place at the same time and drive in opposite directions, one at 55 mph and the other at 65 mph. After how many hours will they be 480 miles apart?

  1. 3.5 hours
  2. 4.5 hours
  3. 8 hours
  4. 4 hours

Answer D. Moving apart, the distance between them grows by 55 + 65 = 120 miles each hour. 480 ÷ 120 = 4 hours.

A truck leaves a depot traveling at 50 mph. One hour later a car leaves the same depot on the same road at 70 mph. How many hours after the car leaves will it catch up with the truck?

  1. 2 hours
  2. 3 hours
  3. 2.5 hours
  4. 3.5 hours

Answer C. When the car starts, the truck is 50 miles ahead. The car closes the gap at 70 - 50 = 20 mph, so it needs 50 ÷ 20 = 2.5 hours.
