Each full-length practice test has 50 questions like the real one and is scored the same way: 40 correct (80 percent) to pass. The MVC does not publish how the 50 questions are split by topic, so we draw 10 road-sign questions, 20 on rules of the road and licensing (signals, right-of-way, speed, turns, required stops, parking, GDL rules, points) and 20 on safe driving (seat belts, following distance, weather, emergencies, alcohol and drugs, sharing the road). The MVC does not state a time limit, so our tests are untimed. We cannot reproduce the MVC's own question pool or the conditions at the testing center.
Sample question from practice test 1
A red and white triangle with one point facing down means:
- Yield: slow down, give the right-of-way to traffic on the other road, and stop if needed
- Stop: come to a full stop every time
- Do not enter: this road is one-way against you
- Merge: the lane you are in is ending
Answer A. This is the YIELD sign. At a yield sign you must slow down and give the right-of-way to traffic on the intersecting road, stopping if necessary.
What is the yellow, three-sided pennant-shaped sign used for?
- School zone warnings
- Yield signs
- No-passing zone warnings
- Slow-moving vehicles
Answer C. The manual's sign chart lists the yellow pennant for no-passing warning signs. Yield signs are red and white triangles, and school signs are yellow pentagons.
