Questions before you buy
Isn't all of this free in my state CDL manual?
Yes, the official facts are free. Your state CDL manual has a vehicle inspection test section and an air brakes section, and you should read it. This guide does not replace it. It puts the inspection in one walk-around order, turns each item into a short sentence you can say, shows where manuals give different numbers, and adds practice logs, a self-scoring sheet and explained questions.
Is this up to date for 2026?
It was written in October 2026 from the New York State Commercial Driver's Manual CDL-10 (11/25 edition), the current California Commercial Driver Handbook linked by the California DMV, and the federal rules on eCFR as read on October 21, 2026. Every number has a source in the text.
Will this work for my state?
The two manuals we compared (New York and California) list almost the same inspection items in almost the same order, so the checklist and method carry over well. Your state's manual may still differ: some numbers differ (for example the low-air warning is 60 psi in the New York manual and 55 psi in the California handbook). The guide shows these differences and gives you a table to fill in with the numbers from YOUR state manual. Always use your own manual on test day.
Are these the real test questions or the official script?
No. There is no official script that you must recite. The script and the 30 practice questions are original, written by passmock from the state manuals and federal rules. Examiners want you to name each part, point to or touch it, and say what you check and why.
Is it a subscription?
No. It is a one-off payment for a PDF you keep. There is nothing to renew.
Can I bring this guide to the test?
Usually no. The California handbook says the only testing aid allowed during the vehicle inspection test is the inspection guide in its own Section 11, with no notes written on it. Check your state's rule and practice until you do not need notes.
