The short answer
There is no single "best" TEAS course. What you need depends on two things: which section pulls your score down, and how many weeks you have before your test date. ATI, which writes the TEAS, recommends allowing at least 6 weeks of preparation.
A sensible order, cheapest first:
- Free: ATI's content outline and its free online practice test, to find your weak section.
- About $20: one book or one set of practice tests, aimed at that section and at timing.
- $69 to $199: an ATI package with an adaptive tutorial, only if the free test shows gaps across several sections.
- A tutor or a class: if you need someone to explain the science or the math to you, not just more questions.
What you can get free
- ATI's free online practice test. According to ATI Help, it has 15 questions in each of the four sections, you add it to your cart and check out for $0, and you get a score report for each attempt. Attempts are unlimited, but it is always the same set of questions, so it measures you well only the first time.
- The ATI TEAS 7 content outline. A free PDF listing every objective and the number of scored questions per sub-area, with sample questions at the end.
- A free textbook for the science section. Science carries the most scored questions on the TEAS (44 of 150), and anatomy and physiology alone accounts for 18 of them according to the ATI content outline; OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology 2e is free online.
- Our free TEAS questions, one page per section with every answer explained: reading, math, science and English.
How to turn these into a six-week plan is in our free TEAS study guide.

Prep courses, classes and tutors
A course is worth paying for when you need teaching, not only practice: for example if you have not studied chemistry or algebra for years. Before paying, ask the nursing program you are applying to whether it runs or recommends a TEAS review, and check that any course you consider is built on the TEAS 7 outline.
A one-to-one tutor costs more per hour but works on your weak section only. If that is what you need, our page on finding a tutor lists what to check before you pay and lets you send one free request to partner tutors.
Where our TEAS pack fits
Our practice pack is a lower-cost way to do the one thing the free test cannot: sit full-length tests under the real timing more than once.
- What it is: 2 full-length practice tests of 150 questions each (300 questions), with the real 209-minute timing, every answer explained, online with a score by section and as a 75-page PDF.
- What it costs: $19, one payment, no subscription, instant access.
- What it is not: our questions are original, written from ATI's published outline. They are not ATI questions, there is no adaptive tutorial, and our score is a percentage of correct answers, not an ATI score.
A combination many candidates can afford: the free ATI test first, a free textbook for science, then two full timed tests in the last two weeks to check your pacing.
How to choose in 2 minutes
| Your situation | A sensible choice |
|---|---|
| Your test is in less than 2 weeks | Free ATI test now, then timed full-length practice tests and review of every mistake |
| One weak section, the others fine | Free material plus the study guide or practice questions for that section only |
| Weak in several sections, 6 weeks or more ahead | An adaptive tutorial such as ATI SmartPrep, or a class, then full-length tests at the end |
| You need the science explained, not drilled | A tutor or a class, with a free A&P textbook |
| You are also sitting the HESI A2 for another school | Prepare each test on its own format: see our HESI A2 study guide |
